Ski Dubai, United Arab Emirates: A Snowy Wonderland in the Desert

Today I want to tell you about a ski resort in Dubai. Sounds unusual, doesn’t it?! Dubai – heat, desert, ski resort – snow and cold, something doesn’t add up… Wait a minute! This is the United Arab Emirates – anything is possible here!

While preparing for my trip to Dubai, I was researching attractions as usual and came across this structure. It cannot be called a ski resort exactly. Ski Dubai is a huge amusement park that includes a ski resort.

The complex is located in the Mall of the Emirates shopping centre.

It has artificial snow all year round. This park is one of the largest indoor complexes with artificial snow.

The park has several slopes for skiers and snowboarders, slides for sledding, snow houses, a penguin show and just snow 🙂 Tickets are sold separately for each sector or as a general admission ticket. Outerwear, skis, snowboards and sledges are provided free of charge, but you will need to bring your own gloves and hats (if required). The temperature in the complex ranges from -1 to -5 degrees Celsius. So I bought myself a hat in one of the mall’s shops. Even though I live in Siberia, -5 is cold for me 🙂

Since I am a fan of downhill skiing, I only bought a ticket for the ski slopes.

Now more about the complex. We bought tickets, entered a huge hall and headed straight for the clothes, they are mostly accurate because the suits are all large. Then you change, leave your belongings in a locker that opens with your card.

Then it’s time to get your equipment! You can write down your boot size or say it in English. The skis are selected professionally: they weigh you, check your height and adjust the bindings according to your skill level. Everyone got everything and took the escalator to the next floor to the complex itself.

At the top, after the turn, there is about the same amount, only at the top the track is single, and here, as you can see, it splits into a gentle slope (on the right) and a steeper one (on the left).

The lifts are chair lifts, as you can see, but there is also a T-bar lift along the wall on the left. Many people ride the lift just for fun (especially those who have never seen snow and don’t know what mountain skiing is).

The quality of the slopes is excellent! I was surprised, by the way.

We had a wonderful time skiing for about two hours, and our hands were frozen by the end. But that was also from falling in the snow 🙂

Opposite the ski slope is a snow town with slides and snow caves, where mainly children and adults who have never seen snow play, as it is a novelty for them.

It is difficult to imagine the scale of this complex. It is worth visiting if you like winter sports and snow in general. You will be amazed by the scale and contrast. After your visit, you can sit in a café overlooking the park. By the way, we watched a penguin show from the café, and when visiting the complex, you have to pay an extra 500 roubles for the show. It’s quite an interesting sight, with trained penguins diving into the pool and eating from your hands.

The children who watched them were delighted.

Before and after your visit, you can also wander around the Mall of the Emirates, a very large and beautiful mall with many famous brand stores. It will be a pleasant and useful adventure.

Enjoy your holiday! We wish you positive impressions!
